Tee Pee Tutorial

Do you remember playing Cowboys and Indians when you were little?

Here is a simple Tee Pee tutorial to help get in touch with your younger self.. ..

Making a Tee Pee doesn't have to be hard, if you choose to do a no sew version you can knock it up in a couple of minutes. Remember when you would make little paper tee pee's for dioramas at school?
The best thing about making a tee pee this way is that you can make it as complicated or as easy as you like.

Grab/Cut a rectangular piece of material.

Our material measured 264 cm x 132 cm.
We chose this number because we actually sewed 32 minnie rectangles together to make one large rectangle.

Your's can be any size as long as it makes a perfect square when halved.

Fold your rectangle into a square.

(We had a piece of material measuring 132 cm x 132 cm)

Fold that square into a rectangle

Then Cut off the ends like shown. Its best to practice this bit on a piece of paper before you cut into your material, cut the wrong end with the large curve shape and you'll cut right through your tee pee.

A good way to know how large your poles/dowel is going to need to be is by measuring one side of your rectangle.

Our dowel, for instance, should have been 132 cm long

- We purchased dowel a little longer to allow room for a skirt at the bottom of our tee pee.

Now you have your basic Tee Pee shape. If you don't care for sewing grab some rope and tie your poles together, then use velcro which has adhesive on the flat side to stick the top of your Tee Pee together.

We used bolts and an O ring to join our poles together.

We used a sewing machine to connect the top half.

Added a pocket inside for toys.

And toggles to the outside for closing the doors.

Now we have a fantastic Tee Pee to play in!

Pyjama day

Ok, so I realise that the tee pee is taking us a little longer than first expected, perhaps because I have now decided to put a box pleat trim on the bottom of it.. but I will say this - it is looking mighty marvelous and if you don't wan't to spend so much time on making a teepee you're welcome NOT to sew 30 squares together to get a large rectangular piece of material. (all will be revealed)

{washing garland available from Meggy Green}

Today is washing day. The one day of the week where it is absolutely, positively recommended that we wear our pyjama's ALL day. (I'm not saying we don't do it on other days... its just O.K on washing day because there are no clothes left.)

If a friend came over another day and we still had our p.j's on at 2pm I'd quickly throw on some trousers to answer the front door, but on washing day I can proudly swing it open and exclaim "It's washing day".

This gets me to thinking do you ever have pyjama days?

Lazy Days.

Since spring is here we have been spending some lazy days in the yard doing what we do best.. lazing around.

Last summer we made a tee pee that didn't last long at all.. I think the cutting and sewing of 7 HUGE triangles got to me a bit and I may have not measured the last 3 up and well.. they just didn't meet up did they?

I have been thinking that it would be much funner to laze around in a cute home made tee pee rather than
a (hard to fold away) sandy beach tent.

But I didn't want it to be too difficult or time consuming.

So we thought and thought

Then off to the hardware store we went to get our supplies.

and onto etsy we popped to find some funky material.

I think I may just make you all a tutorial because I can see that this tent is all ready looking fabulous - and its so easy that if you wanted to you wouldn't have to sew anything.

(of course.. I will be sewing with my trusty sewing teacher Maree.)

With her I know it will look fabulous (and probably have pockets and hems and such too)

So get your dowel out, we're making a teepee.

A spring in our step.

Spring is in the air, can you feel it?

Check out these beautiful spring inspired items on etsy.

This lady has some huge talent, I would love one of these for Boys wall.

(blow me down, I'd like to have known about this shop when I was pregnant with Boy.)

Really couldn't help myself, as soon as I saw this I had to have it.

A new wreath for every season.. or heck, how about for every week!

We are so, so .. So utterly glad that flu season is blowing away as the sweet spring air blows in. The warmer weather that streams in through our windows has definitely made us feel 100% better & we will soon be back on track.
